CONCEPT
Mirror Work — lace — is a mirror that does not fully function as one. A layer of lace is held between the mirror and the glass, creating a thin membrane in front of the reflected image. The viewer can see a face and the outline of a body, yet expression and detail dissolve into the repeated floral pattern. The image remains visible, but cannot be secured immediately as one's own.
The lace is not decoration. It transmits and obstructs light at the same time, delaying the moment in which seeing becomes recognition. The gaze is arrested just before reaching the reflected image, and the body begins to adjust its angle, distance, and focus. Looking is no longer simple self-confirmation; attention folds back toward the act of looking itself.
The work treats the mirror as a threshold rather than a transparent reflecting plane. The image feels close but remains untouchable — oneself and yet not fully oneself. In that suspended distance, the mirror begins to shift from an object that returns the self-image toward a device that reorganizes the relationship between the body, the image, and the space in front of it.
CONCEPT
《Mirror Work — lace —》
