CONCEPT

Mirror Work — Mountain — consists of two mountain-like masses placed face to face. Their forms are roughly symmetrical but not identical; wrinkled and uneven surfaces give them the sense of matter that has accumulated, been compressed, and changed over time. A vertical rift runs between the two bodies, with facing mirror surfaces embedded deep inside. Only when the viewer stands before the fissure and looks inward does an image appear.

The mountain here does not imitate a landscape or reproduce an external model. The mass itself — layered, folded, and spread across the floor — manifests as the phenomenon of a mountain. The viewer does not stand before a representation of a mountain, but before matter becoming mountain.

The mirror structure is transformed at the same time. The mirror no longer confronts the world as a surface that represents or reflects it. Concealed within the mountain, mirror reflects mirror, and an image opens from inside the mass. The world is not placed opposite the mirror; rather, the world itself emerges as a mirror-like event. What had been a device for returning the self-image becomes a site where a world appears — where representation, recognition, and reflection are opened from within matter itself.

CONCEPT
